ah, that explains it. I would indeed also assume they’d know how to pronounce it. another day, another thing learned

Looks like good sportsmanship to me.

I was anticipating an “unexpected reaction,” but there were no surprises. His reaction was just as normal as anyone else’s.

    Looks like humility to me.

In the post-bee interview, he said that he would study physics this summer, now that he was “retired” from spelling. I think he was happy with the win; he just didn’t know what to do in front of all those cameras.

is it me but isn’t that first “K” supposed to be silent? and perhaps he’s so calm, because he knew he had that sucker right from the start

If I were in his position, I probably would’ve done a similar amount of nothing. Some people just don’t scream and jump around and act like idiots when they’re happy, that’s all.

There’s an excellent article about Arvind and this win (along with some background info that makes his reactions more understandable)over at Grantland.com.http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/63955/arvinds-last-stand-a-long-awaited-win-at-the-scripps-national-spelling-bee

I had to chuckle at Tin’s spelling of “literate.” 😉 What was that story about Haman being hung on the gallows he built for someone else?

It’s just you. The people who run the National Spelling Bee obviously know how to pronounce the words. Also, several German words with that prefix pronounce the K.

Tin what an arrogant, ignorant little man you are. Congratulations to this exceptional young man, well done.
