12 Important Things To Check When Inspecting A Potential Home

1. Check the cell reception.

Sure, there are ways around it. You could get a wi-fi phone, or ask your carrier to install an extender. But if none of those options work, you’ll be stuck in an unreachable dead zone.

2. Check the outlets to make sure that a) they’re plentiful and b) they’re modern.

Only 2 grounded outlets in the entire apartment? DEALBREAKER.

3. Make sure it’s not in a delivery black hole.

4. Try the work commute.

If it unexpectedly takes you way longer to get to work, you could suffer a difficult life adjustment.

5. Enter the address into the bedbug registry.

Prevent the ultimate nightmare.

6. Visit the place at night to see how the noise levels are.

Or be relegated to earplugs for the rest of your life.

7. Take measurements.

Having to buy a new fridge or a new couch might make or break your moving-in budget.

8. Take lots of photos.

Not only will it help you when it comes time to making a decision, but it might help you prove a deposit claim down the line.

9. Sneak a peek at what’s going on in the cabinets underneath the sink.

If there’s mold, you know you’ll have major plumbing issues. If there’s Raid or mouse traps, you know you could have a pest control problem.

10. If you live in a city and own a car, check the parking signs on the street.

Waking up at 7 A.M. every morning to move your car will greatly decrease your quality of life.

11. Talk to a neighbor if you can.

Hopefully, they’ll let you know just how awesome the neighborhood is. Or, conversely, whether there was just a spate of break-ins on the block.

12. Check the water pressure and the hot water.

Nothing worse than a trickling, lukewarm shower.
