Whenever a Kiwi leaves New Zealand, whether it be on holiday or for good, they leave behind a wealth of delicious foods unique to NZ (and Australia in some cases). This list reveals what foods New Zealanders miss the most when travelling abroad.
10. Lolly Cake
An unbaked slice made from crushed malt biscuits, butter, condensed milk, and marshmallow-type lollies. Present in all Kiwi bakeries and a favourite of the little ones (or your grandma.)
Weetbix originated in Australia but are also one of New Zealand’s favourite breakfast cereals.
Hard orange candies, smothered in chocolate, these little red balls are delicious.

4. Mince & Cheese Pie
Also a favorite in Australia, the mince and cheese pie is a classic.
You either love them or you hate them. Most Kiwis grew up with Feijoas in their lunch boxes. The flesh of this fruit is both sweet and sour, and absolutely delicious!
2. Pineapple Lumps
Chewy, pineapple flavoured marshmallow coated in milk chocolate. Pineapple lumps have always been a favourite treat in New Zealand.
Lemon and Paeroa, a soda made in New Zealand for New Zealanders. It could be described as being kind of like lemonade…but then again, nothing like lemonade. Either way, Kiwi’s have always loved this drink and it is sorely missed when travelling abroad.
